Since I work with Portland Real Estate Agents everyday on a number of transactions and hear all sorts of things from various people, I thought I’d write a post on choosing a real estate agent (even if you don’t choose myself, though I hope you’d consider it). 1. Customer Service. No matter how experienced and agent is, no matter how much education they have, no matter how good their marketing package is, if they don’t have a customer service focus, don’t pick them. Customer service means picking up the phone or at least calling back within the same day. Customer service means updating the client regularly as the transaction progresses. No Portland real estate agent is worth your time unless...
Logos for all three REALTOR® associations. Not all Portland Real Estate Agents are REALTORS®. The term “REALTOR®” is a registered collective membership mark that identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. All REALTORS® in Portland are real estate agents, but not all Portland real estate agents are REALTORS®. This membership is much more than a networking group. A REALTOR® in Portland is held to a higher standard, the Code of Ethics put out by the NAR, a 17 point pledge to give ethical customer service. For instance, the first pledge is a promise to put the interests of buyers and sellers ahead of their own and to treat all parties honestly. All...

Trulia gives out its PRO status to those agents who pay to feature their listings on Trulia.com. Currently the second most visited real estate website, it is crucial to feature your listings on Trulia. See my entire listing package here. In my opinion, Trulia is one of the friendliest websites to use, but I prefer my own Portland home search site to theirs (it is more accurate and even easier to use). I have a reviews on Trulia and Zillow.com and all of them on my website. Stephen FitzMaurice, Realtor See all of my twelve designations here.
Zillow loves to give out awards and I think I have them all! Zillow gives out rewards for helping out visitors to their site who ask questions (they used to, this feature has since disappeared) and also for contributing to their site – recording a lot of sales (they used to, this is also gone). Zillow gives out awards to agents who feature their listings on Zillow (Premier Zillow Agent), an important thing to do considering Zillow is currently the number one visited real estate website (again, they used to do it this way, but things have changed, keep reading). Stephen made the experience of selling my first house seamless. I live in another state but he kept me informed and moved the process along without a hitch. The only thing another agent could have done differently was charge a much higher commission. I only wish he was able help me purchase in my state. Highly recommend his service and business model.
