Top 10 Real Estate Websites By Traffic, 2022 Report

Article thumbnail

As a top 1% real estate agent in the U.S. with over 2,000 sales in Oregon and Washington, knowing which real estate websites get the most traffic is a huge deal to me. We pay extra on the top real estate websites to feature our client’s homes, push them to the top, obtain more branding, ultimately get more views on their homes so they sell faster. Every year I put out a report on which real estate websites are getting the most visitors. It is fascinating to discover each years winners and losers. Let’s take a look together:

Top 5 Real Estate Websites in 2022

Monthly VisitorsAverage Visit Duration
1. Zillow.com255.5 Million6:20
2. Realtor.com136.7 Million5:55
3. Redfin.com78.6 Million4:49
4. Trulia.com48.4 Million4:50
5. Movoto.com21.9 Million3:57
Data provided by SimilarWeb.

In 2022 there was no movement among the top 5 real estate websites. Each website retained its top ranking spot without changing and got roughly the same traffic they managed to obtain in our 2021 report. No real winners or losers here this year. As before, the top 5 real estate websites get more traffic than the rest of the real estate websites in the U.S. combined. (Quick note: this article is focused on residential real estate websites that display homes for sale and not rent. There are other rental and commercial real estate websites that command good traffic we are leaving out of these charts.)

Top 10 List of Real Estate Websites (cont.)

Monthly VisitorsAverage Visit Duration
6. ColdwellBankerHomes.com9.6 Million2:53
7. Homes.com9.4 Million3:35
8. Remax.com6.8 Million3:37
9. Compass.com5.3 Million4:06
10. Century21.com4.5 Million4:01

Coldwell Banker’s website retained its sixth position spot from 2021, though it maintained the lowest average time on site for the bottom 5 of the top 10 real estate websites, which is not a great indicator for future growth. Homes.com maintained its 7th spot. This might have to do with their acquisition by Costar Group, a previously commercial-focused real estate website company. Homes.com is one to watch, we’ll see if Costar Group continues to heavily promote the site in 2022. Remax.com maintained its 8th spot. Compass.com increased its ranking from 10th to 9th, overtaking Century21.com which dropped in traffic from 2021 and slid to the 10th spot.

Beyond the Top 10 Real Estate Websites

Monthly VisitorsAverage Visit Duration
11. Homesnap.com4.23:10
12. Propertyshark.com3.93:38
13. Estately.com3.41:49
14. Rockethomes.com2.92:02
15. Kw.com2.68:07
16. Sothebysrealty.com2.44:07
17. Exprealty.com1.94:48
18. ForSaleByOwner.com1.21:32

Homesnap.com retained its 11th spot from 2021, not really seeing any growth from the year before. Estately.com, which used to be a top 10 real estate website, slid further to the 13th spot. Rockethomes.com is a relatively new player in the real estate website scene, rising to 14th spot but maintaining a pretty low time on site average (we tested their site and did not enjoy the front end user interface at all). KW.com, Keller William’s site, which also used to be a top 10 real estate website, continued its slide to the bottom. KW.com’s high time on site is likely due to agent’s logging into the sites backend, not likely reflective of front end user search. ExpRealty.com broke into the top 20 after more than doubling its traffic from 2021. ExpRealty.com is the fastest growing Realty company in the world and so we’ve kept their website on our watchlist for a few years now.

Real Estate Websites to Watch

Homes.com’s purchase by CoStar Group is one to watch. CoStar Group is a well funded, established commercial real estate website company looking to break into the residential homes for sale space. We’ll see if this translates to increased traffic and user engagement.

ExpRealty.com was the biggest gainer on our list from 2021 to 2022 and will be closely watched this year to see how their increasing agent count leads to increased traffic and engagement on their site.

VestorFilter.com is my favorite real estate agent website provider. We use them for our all direct connect MLS home search sites for our own clients.

Searching for Homes for Sale in Oregon or Washington?

Most agents don’t recommend using national real estate websites for local home searches. This is because the big national portals are taking in hundreds or thousands of data feeds from across the country in order to display every home for sale across the U.S. This means the local MLS data is often dumbed-down to be compatible with their systems. To get the best and fastest data on local homes for sale in your area, we recommend direct connect (to the local MLS) websites. Here is our list for Oregon and Washington:

PortlandHomesForSale.com
SalemHomeforSale.com

What My Clients Are Saying

Stephen was just simply a fantastic realtor to work with in selling our home. If we had another 50 properties to sell, Stephen would be in charge of all of them. He was so professional in handling every detail of our sale, and he was so responsive to every question that came up in the course of our transaction. My wife and I are very thankful that we found Stephen.
